Here come the NorsemenNorseman!
(The Viking and the Peasant Girl)

by Emily Chesley

No man may have me
As I wait here by the sea
For the return of my Norseman
A fierce warrior is he.

With a war axe of iron.
And helmet of horn
And such a proud name
Sven, Erik, or Bjorn

His moniker I admit
I do not know
His stay was short
Then he had to go

To raid on down the coast
To burn and to pillage
Each ocean side hamlet
Every abbey and village.

When they landed here,
Him and his men
He came upon me
Over there in the glen

And while his men rampaged
With iron and flame
What we were up to
Put the wood nymphs to shame

My village is in ruins
It burned quite a while
I really do feel sad
But I can't shake this smile

longshipAnd lo! On the horizon
A square sail hither comes
It must be my Norseman
He's back with his chums.

Oh hammer wielding Thor
Oh God of Thunder
Who excites my passions
And pulls me asunder.

Oh, Proud son of Odin
On Viking ship's prow
Come down from that perch
And pillage me now!
